How Technology has changed our Society Part 3
In our world today, technology is an essential part of all our daily lives. From the evolution of the cell phone to how our society has adapted to new technologies like smartphones and tablets. It is evident that technology has become a prominent feature in most of our lives. Today is the 3rd and final installment of our series discussing how our society relies on technology and how technology has affected society and people in general.
Information travels very quickly today thanks to the evolution of the Internet and revolutionary changes in mobile technology. Prior to the industrial revolution, people who wanted to communicate with their relatives in far away places had two choices, take the time and travel to visit them or send them a letter. This of course took a lot of time. With the emergence of mobile technology and the Internet, people can contact each other virtually anywhere, anytime. You can chat for hours at a time and be in contact instantly. The creation of video chatting and the increased speed of the Internet have allowed people to speak to friends and family members all over the world free of charge in an audio and/or video format. While this is wonderful, it’s also created a society where we’re virtually always connected and there can be some negatives to this. Turn off your phone or networks from time to time and take space for yourself.
The inventions of the smartphones and tablets have also revolutionized our society. You can set alarms and reminders for appointments, get directions, and in the case of an Apple IOS device, ask “Siri” for anything! These devices also keep connected to all our networks and contact information. It’s literally a camera, calculator, phone book, dictionary, map, encyclopedia, computer, alarm clock and much more all in one.
It would be impossible to imagine a life without technology. It would be extremely different from what we are accustomed to today. At the end of the day, the truth is, all of us rely on technology a great deal to get through the day. Whether it’s at work, at home, or at school. We are living in a world where technology is the norm for younger generations. As a society it is important to adapt to all of these changes but still understand and take a step back from time to time. It’s important to teach our children how to disconnect and tell them of the time before all of this existed.
