For HighVail Systems, it’s a small move, but it’s a big move. The Toronto-based high-availability-focused solution provider celebrated the grand opening of its new headquarters in Toronto Wednesday. But staff and customers aren’t going to have change their travel plans much to get to the company – they just need to get off the elevator a little earlier.

The year of opportunity and hardship
Last year was a tough one, but it capped a successful run for the ICT sector. The geographical breakdown of the Top 250 listing remained relatively static in 2009. Ontario, which experienced the largest increase in representation among Canadian provinces in 2008, realized the sharpest decline in 2009, falling three per cent to account for 57 per cent of listed firms.

The death of Hitachi/Sun alliance was decided long ago
The bottom line for Oracle with the acquisition of Sun Microsystems is they have plenty of storage options for customers and did not need Hitachi Data Systems any longer. Today Oracle has storage tape solutions from StorageTek, they have Open Storage from Sun along with mid-range storage from the LSI OEM agreement. And, while not officially part of Oracle, Pillar Data Systems is also in the mix.
